Job title: TECHNICAL SUPPLIER ENGINEER – RAW CABLE

Summary/Objective: The Technical Supplier Coordinator is responsible for coordinating activities for third-party sourcing and manufacturing of raw cable in Asia. This is a strategic role focused on supplier onboarding and development, monitoring risks and opportunities within the supply chain, and driving performance metrics such as cost, yield, and capacity. The position serves as a local liaison to connect suppliers with internal engineering, operations, and sourcing teams to achieve desired outcomes.
 
Essential Functions/ Responsibilities:
  • Identify and assess potential new suppliers through market research, industry networks, supplier outreach, and other means.   
  • Conduct initial supplier visits, supplier evaluations, capability assessments, and develop initial supplier relationships. 
  • Coordinate with Sourcing and Engineering on new supplier onboarding activities, sample builds, and product/process qualification.  
  • Ensure suppliers have adequate raw material supply and production capacity to support high speed cable ramp plans.  
  • Ensure suppliers adhere to all Samtec specifications including product drawings, control plans, and quality requirements. 
  • Manage implementation of new product introduction and changes at suppliers.  
  • Drive suppliers to improve performance including cost, yield, and capacity. 
  • Engage with suppliers on their product roadmaps and forward facing efforts. 
  • Work with internal raw cable and assembly engineering teams to optimize cable use in downstream assembly processes.  
  • Conduct regular on-site supplier visits and audits to identify risks and ensure execution readiness. 
  • Facilitate clear and timely communication regarding expectations, deliverables, and performance while tracking status, timelines of supplier contracts, purchase orders, and to escalate any schedule conflicts to management. 
  • Identify and escalate project risks and issues that could impact projects and carry out response plans determined by management. 
  • Create reports and status updates on project information and present them to management.

Required/Preferred Experience: 
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, technical sourcing, or related technical role.  
  • Experience with onboarding and managing third-party manufacturers is preferred.  
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes for raw cables, cable assemblies, and/or similar electromechanical components is preferred.  
  • Ability to be forward thinking to anticipate risks and opportunities.  
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional and geographically distributed teams. 
  • Familiar with regional business practices and building supplier relationships.  
  • Proficient in MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; fluent in Mandarin Chinese with working proficiency in English.  
  • Willingness to travel locally to supplier sites as required. 
 
 
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • Lean six sigma certification is preferred.
  • Certification demonstrating proficiency in supply chain is preferred.
Training required:
  • On the job training as appropriate.
